Reception
In Reception, we ask you to read a little bit everyday. You can try reading your school books to an adult or older sibling. You are welcome to share library books or books you have at home. We are even happy if an adult at home reads to you.
Reading books will be changed and sent home at least weekly. You can use Bug Club to play phonics games and find more reading books.
We will send you home with a word tin to help you practise your speaking and phonics sounds.
You can login to Numbots and have a go at some of your number facts.
Year One and Year Two
Little and often is the key with reading! Read a little bit everyday to an adult or with an adult at home and you will soon notice the difference. Your reading books will be changed at least once per week and you can access access phonics games and reading books with your Active Learn Bug Club login.
Your spellings will be linked to Bug Club Phonics and topics as well as common exception words for KS1. You might have a word tin home to help you with some of the trickier phonics sounds.
You can play games and practise your number facts on Numbots. And maybe even move onto Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) when you are ready.
Year Three and Year Four
Again, little and often works best with reading! Record your reading on Boom Reader so your teacher knows about all of the reading you have been sharing at home.
Your teacher might give you a reading comprehension to practise your VIPERS skills.
You will have a weekly spelling list including common exception words and Year 3 and 4 statutory spelling words.
Yur teacher might also set spag.com activities to help review your grammar and punctuation learning.
And we know how much you all love Times Tables Rock Stars! This will help you with remembering your timestables and division facts.
Year Five and Year Six
You will need to record all the reading you do on Boom Reader so your teacher knows how you have been getting on.
Each week you will have spellings including the common exception words and statutory spelling words for Year 5 and 6. These might also be a review of the spelling rules and patterns you have been learning in class.
Times Tables Rock Stars continues into Year 5 and Year 6. This is helpful for you to quickly recall your timestables and related division facts. You will have another weekly maths as decided by your class teacher.
In Year 6, you will have some additional SATs activities so you are completely prepared for your SATs in May.
Sometimes your teacher may set additional project or topic work. This will be set well in advance and with clear scaffolds and instructions to help you.
