Our Curriculum at Tysoe CE Primary School
We are an inclusive school and our vision, though distinctly Christian, aims to welcome and value all faiths and cultures within our school and wider community.
As a church school we believe that every person, every child and every adult, is unique and special with God given gifts and talents and it is our role, as we seek to serve our school community, to grow, nurture and cherish these through our broad curriculum. We aim to inspire all children to flourish by sharing their individual light during a life of fullness within God’s love of all.
At Tysoe, our curriculum is unique and carefully planned to accommodate our five, mixed-age classes. It is designed to provide a broad and balanced education that meets the needs of all children and provides the skills, knowledge and understanding to prepare them for their future lives. Our curriculum aims to inspire all children to develop curiosity, creativity and independence, leading to a passion for being a lifelong learner.
We aim to develop happy, confident, loving and caring children who look after and value themselves, each other and their world. Through all aspects of our carefully planned curriculum we aim to ensure every child has an opportunity to feel valued, supported and enabled to flourish within school and we actively celebrate their unique personalities and talents.
The aim of our Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural teaching and learning is to equip the children with an understanding of how to develop into good citizens with an awareness of their part in society, locally in the community, nationally and globally. Children are encouraged to consider how they learn best and are supported to develop positive learning behaviours, with a ‘can do’ growth mindset.
Our curriculum comprises the core subjects: English, Mathematics and Science; and the foundation subjects: Computing, History, Geography, Art and Design, Design Technology, Music, Physical Education and Languages in KS2. In addition, RE and Worldviews and Personal, Social and Health Education are taught in lessons and through our Collective Worship as part of a whole school programme.
Although we follow the statutory requirements, it is our approach and delivery of the subjects that make us distinctive as a school. Our classroom teachers collaborate to shape the curriculum in ways which involve their unique knowledge of the children in their care to ensure excellence and enjoyment for all pupils. This includes applying the core skills learnt in English and Maths to other areas of the curriculum and creating experiences that are real, meaningful and memorable for the children. This is achieved through class and whole school topic work, and through a range of visits and visitors, including a residential visit for children in Years 5 and 6.
